Food Intolerance Testing

Hydrogen breath testing – Fructose/Lactose food intolerance & SIBO Testing:

The test involves breath hydrogen analysis to assess how your body digests specific sugars, such as fructose (found in fruit) and lactose (found in milk). The amount and pattern of hydrogen in your exhaled breath can provide insights into the nature of your intolerance.

Normally, sugars like fructose and lactose are absorbed in the small intestine, with very little reaching the large intestine, where many of our beneficial bacteria live. However, some individuals are unable to properly digest and absorb these sugars, leading to symptoms (listed below). In these individuals, the undigested sugars travel to the large intestine, where bacteria ferment them, producing hydrogen in amounts that correlate with the severity of the intolerance.

Possible symptoms of Lactose/fructose Intolerance include abdominal cramps, bloating, flatulence, fatigue, nausea, loose stool or a change in bowel habits.

A SIBO breath test is a non-invasive procedure that measures the levels of hydrogen and methane in a person’s breath to diagnose small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO)
